Bill was born October 25, 1936, to Nancy Jane and William
Lanham, Sr. He was raised in the Washington metropolitan area and attended
schools in the District of Columbia and Maryland. He served as a Petty
Officer in the U.S. Naval Reserve during the Korean Era.
Bill married Nancy Ellen Crawford, his high school sweetheart, on September
15, 1956. They have three sons - Skip, Scott and Steven, three
daughters-in-law - Janet, Jill and Carolyn, and seven grandchildren - Debra,
Teresa, Jeffrey, Kelly, Michael, Erin and Casey.
His employment career was with AT&T and Bell Atlantic in a variety of
positions, from construction to engineering, for 38 years, retiring in 1992
from Bell Atlantic as Right of Way Representative for Washington, D.C.
He served the community in various athletic and civic associations for 15
years - coaching several sports for the Wheaton Boys Club and as a Scout
Leader for local troops and the Washington Council.
Bill is Past Master (1996) of Kensington Lodge #198, Montgomery County, MD
and a member of Scottish Rite, Valley of Washington, D.C., and the Royal
Order of Scotland. He joined Almas in May of 1990 and has served as Director
of Almas Greeters; President of the Uniformed Units and Screwballs; Chairman
of Almas Night at the Circus for four years and the Merit Award program for
six years. He is a member of the Knights of Mecca; Northwest Shrine Club;
Almas Yacht Club; The Shepherds and Diamond Teocalli #75, Order of
Quetzalcoatl. Bill is also honored to be a member of The Legion of Honor,
and President of the Almas Cabiri #64 and the Almas Trustees the past four
years.
Since being appointed to the Almas Divan in 1993, Bill has attended and
served at the Imperial Sessions, M.A.S.A. Conventions and enjoys his
Counterpart Reunions. In their spare time, Bill and Nancy enjoy each other,
their family, home and travel.
